    ATROAD

Our company uses Atroad (atroad.com). I don't have much info on the system, but I have to guess we have 100 vehicles on the road using their product so I have to believe that someone did a lot of research.

We use the system to track payroll and to check up on techs that tend to get lost and trucks gone astray. It seems to me we don't have many problems with it.

    similar watching

I have an elderly mom that wanted a cell phone without all those buttons. I found my cell provider had a 5 button phone (911, and four other pre programmed buttons for me my brother and my sister etc) after I got my first bill I saw that I could request for an additional $9.95/month
GPS tracking! this phone was ment for pre-teens and keeping an eye on them, but now there is an even better reason to give this to MA! keeping an eye on the elderly.
Pretty boring though, doctors office, pharmacy and bingo halls.

    Fleettracker...

The company I worked for purchased the Fleet tracker system. Although my wife get's a kick out of it (she has the password to monitor where I am, and yes that's not fair) it has not proven to be as valuable as originally thought. We cover rural area's and it cannot alway's communicate, and as such is not instant. If there is a question down the road it does store information so that in theory could become useful.

    Fleettracker

I got a price of $275 to install it on 5 vehicles and then $50 each vehicle per month.

Sounds pricey to me, but I'm inclined to get it done.

    Us too

We've used it for several years. Basically same reasons as Paul. Not sure I'd recommend @road, namely for their customer service. It's been a pain any time I've had to call, many don't speak English well. I wasn't in on the original decision to go with them so don't know how they compare but when our contract is up, I will look around.

My feelings are if you can not trust your guys not to abuse the vehicle, How do you trust them to enter customers homes and work in them? I left my last employer the day gps was put in van. I have nothing to hide, if that is what you are going to say. I never, and I mean NEVER use company truck without express concent of boss. I have my own tools and my own truck.

    GPS

We use Networkcar and we like it. It does everything we need. GPS, Remote Diagnostics, Preventive Maintenance, Reporting, Stolen Vehicle Recovery.

That's great, and I wish everyone had that attitude. Like I said, we use it for payroll and when we loose track of someone and can't get them by Nextel. We once had an oil driver have a medical problem and used the GPS to find him and his truck.

I think you are wrong to assume it's just to watch the tech's every move. The only time we look at where they've been is when they start to get "lost", and this is not very often. In business today, it's more important than ever to maximize your resources.
