How would you pros handle this? (OT)

Homeowner here. My local a/c and heating service provider (one of the bigger ones in the area) just installed a new high-end a/c. Their bid stated the factory would send me a $1,000 rebate. I now find out I'm only getting a $900 rebate. The salesman says he made a mistake. What would you do if you made a similar mistake?

Slightly irrelevant additional facts: We've got a yearly service contract with them. And they were 2 weeks late in supplying me the bid (after my old unit crapped out).

Should I complain? $100 won't put either of us in the poor house. But, I feel a little stepped-on here.

    well....

It may be a mistake or misunderstanding. Do you have the rebate info in writing?

They should give you $100, if they don't want to then cancel your service contract.

    If the salesman

promised $1000, the rebate should be that amount. Period.

If that were my company, you'd get the remaining $100 with no hesitation.

    They made the deal

and should live up to it. Seems 100 bucks is a small part of a high end replacement sale?

It should come out of the salesman pay.

At least let the company know, it could be an ongoing "mistake."

I couldn't agree more my company as well would refund the $100 Its not the amount of money it's the principle that you should be held accountable. We would charge it off to "The cost of good will" Your reputation is everything in this business.

the comany has to eat it...

there is an old IBM story about the then IBM president Watson, it seems, one of his salesmen made a mistake to the tune of 150grand on a gov contract, in the late 50’s that was a lot of mula-shmula!!! – so the sales person left his resignation on watson’s desk, but before he had a chance to leave, Watson stormed into his office and exclaimed, “after I spent 150,000 dollars on you education, you’re going to leave me???” – Watson was one of the great ones!!!

    How rebate works.

Most rebates are just stupid marketing tool to get you to buy.

I dont offer rebates even tho the company I buy my equipment does however, they want me to pay half and they pay the other half.

So I'm sure they up their price on the equipment that I buy
from them to cover the rebate and then, I have to up my price to you to cover my part of the rebate.

So for me thats the reason I dont like offering rebates.
Yes it may be a great marketing tool, I just feel like it dishonest and nothing but more paper to have to shuffle.

I would be mad too if I knew they were holding something back that I'd already paid for.

Ask the HVAC Company to put the shoe on the other foot, What would he say if he sent you a bill for a $1000 and you mailed in a check for $900. I bet he would want his money. I would make you the refund.
