    Someone

has gotten soot smudges all over my new Buderus boiler install. My baby blue boiler is now black and blue. :( I have called CSI in and will hold an execution at Dawn when the perpetrator is found, (I suspect the chimney liner installers) but in the meantime, what is the best cleaner for this oil based soot. I tried my hand cleaner towelettes and then some formula 409 but both of them just spread it around and made it look worse. What will clean this stuff up? WW

Don`t know much about soot removal stuff,,but be careful mixing household cleaners, I did that once and the vapors that erupted almost landed me in the hospital!

    CURSE those devils!!!

Get yourself a bottle of Simple Green and a roll of paper towels! One wipe to a towel...cause going the other way just spreads it around.

When finished, feel free to employ an old trick I learned from Bill Nye...Not the Science Guy....TURTLE WAX!!! Not that sissy spray and wax stuff...but true in the cardboard can Turtle WAX!Applied with the "in the cover" Dabber, slightly moistened and finish with a fine COTTON cloth when flaky and completely dry.

For the real rough spots...don't forget you Dupont #7 rubbing compound before the waxing.

Good luck Wayne! (You'll never live that one down Bill!) Chris

    Clammy has it right

    Spray9 or Zep purple stuff.
The purple stuff is similar to Castrol Super Clean.

All very good at soot cleaning.
