proper maintenance is a critical part
of selling and installing mod cons. Proper clean out at original start, and yearly clean and check will make a big difference in the life cycle of these boilers.
There is not a lot of metal thickness to "give up" in the stainless steel coiled heat exchanger.
Corrrosion from the inside or bad intake air, improperly adjusted burner, flow rate thru the HX are some of the issues to watch.

Utica Mod-Con Boilers
You guys really should check out the Utica/Dunkirk
UB95M-200. It is old school quality. The heat exchanger is heavy duty, one piece cast aluminum, and guaranteed for 15 years. 10 years 100%, the last 5 are pro-rated. Doesn't aluminum transfer heat better than stainless? The boiler and components are guaranteed for 5 years, materials and labor! Even the igniter is guaranteed for 5 years, it is not a glow bar, it is a sold metal spark ignitor, you can't break this one. I only have a couple of the new Utica's installed, but their installation and start up was a piece of cake. Going by their performance over the last 20 years that I have been using Utica cast Iorn boilers, I expect top quality and service from Utica in the future, their boilers just don't seem to have the problems other boilers have. Years ago I started my own 5 year guarantee on my heating systems because I was so confident, and the amount of problems I have had over the years, you could count on one hand. It comes with a fully modulating burner, outdoor reset, it's 95% efficient and completly made in the U.S.A. I just talked to a customer and he said he can't believe how quiet it is compared to his old power venter. He said the only thing he can hear is the condensate pump, and he likes that, because he understands the condensate translates into energy savings. Thanks, Bob Gagnon

I understand that....
the Prestige has been in use for 12 to 15 years in Europe...I expect the VITO's have been around awhile. We'll see in the American market. If you want long term results in the American market you have to go to the Hydrotherm Pulse boiler. I have 4 300,000 input boilers going on about 25 years with very little maintenance or repairs. Lots' of changes through the early years, I understand, but in the end they appeared to get in right(sort of like the Olds 350 Diesel..they latest models were great). I suspect that Hydrotherm is dropping these, since replacement parts just doubled to tripled in price overnight recently. Just be careful....they used to shut down for inventory midwinter like a few other big makes, so parts are not avialable for 2 to 3 weeks in January.

Just a breeze to put in, set up..and Q-U-I-E-T!!
I had to look at the sight glass to tell it was actually running. HO didn't believe me either.0 -
95-200 Quantum
I'm sure they are a nice boiler for a large enough application. But even with outdoor reset, these boilers will be way oversized for most smaller residential applications.0
