Ringo Starr was born today

Richard Starky was born this day in 1940.

Ringo was thought of by many as the Funny Beatle but was actually considered by many to be a very prolific drummer. His style was different as he was left handed but played a right handed drum kit, giving his drumming a distictive style.

Every time I see your face...

Interviewer: Do you consider yourself a "Mod" or a "rocker?"

    Ringo: I'm a "mocker"

    Act Naturally

They're gonna put me in the movies

They're gonna make a big star out of me

We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely

And all I have to do is act naturally

Quite a story, and a great comeback...

Ringo fought a long battle against "John Barleycorn" and finally won. He celebrated his new-found sobriety by being the first Mr.Conductor on "Thomas the Tank Engine", and helped introduce that wonderful program to a couple generations of kids. He still shows up and plays with other bands occasionally, and still has that unique sound.

    Oh Yeah

I forgot he was Mr Conductor. My kids grew up watching Thomas and I really enjoyed Ringo in that role. Wish he had stayed with it.

    Ringo

Did anyone else see Ringo on that tribute concert for George Harrison after George died? They played it on PBS about a hundred times. Ringo sang "Photograph" and I'd be surprised if there was a single tearless eye in the whole place.

"Every time I see your face it reminds me of the places we used to go. But all I have is a photograph and I realise you're not coming back anymore."

I loved him as Mr. Conductor.....they used George Carlin, too (but that may have been community service...I'm not sure.)

the song Octopuses Garden after Scuba Diving in the Caribean and learning that octopus are territorial and do landscape their area so to speak. Ringo thought that was "Gear" and was inspired to write the song. WW
