Uponor

I was told today that Amy Givan and three or four other sales managers were let go on Friday. Seems like a lot of down sizing for some reason. Anyone know who is working in the mid atlantic area now?

Uponor Contacts for Mid-Atlantic
Chris,
Please let me know what area you cover and I'll get you in contact with the Uponor people that cover that area:
Patrick Reed - Director of Sales - East - 518-767-3370
Bob Davis - Sales Manager - Southeast - 770-345-08810 -
Is it possible
That the sales force and the others were coasting and not performing? Isn't that at all possible? We have an independent rep for Uponor, he's one of the best reps we have. I certainly haven't seen a drop in quality have you?
People get fired and hired every single day. Most people who are let go deserve it don't they? People who know what they're doing, exhibit enthusiasm and show up every day can write their own ticket...0 -
Like John Barba?
I think not...

As one
who was turfed by Uponor I take exception to your comments. I don't want to sound arrogant but I will say that my knowledge of and enthusiasm for the radiant heating and cooling industry can be matched by few and I doubt that you have a complete understanding of the time required to hold some of these positions. The endless hours on flights to everywhere, the time away from your families, the ever increasing demands. Corporate life is tough and sometimes there are decisions based more on the needs or wants of others than on the contributions of those effected. You are welcome to think what you want of me but all of the other people that have been let go or that have been coaxed towards the door have been good people and they don't deserve your cheap shot.

Respectfully I have to take exception with your comments I don't think you should paint with such a broad brush based on generality's and assumption. You have implied that a lot of good people wre fired for just cause.I can speak from personal experience that you are very wrong about a lot of the people.

The American Way
Just another example of the bottom line mentality of American business. I have seen many good people let go who were sound assetts to the companies they represent(ed)
These same people always seem to land on there feet!

I can feel your pain...
...and in this day and age good people often get the axe too.
I spoke with John Barba at the NAOHSM show and he seems to fit right in with the Taco group. Ken Andersen is now with a major rep firm (Urell). I hope all works out well for you too, Tim.0 -
Talk about closed-minded...."Most people who are let go deserve it don't they?" --I would say to look at each situation and comment....Throwing every situation into a "one-size fits all" shows your ignorance Supply House Rick.0 -
Being friends with..........
......... quite a few of the ones the were "let go", I can vouch for their commitment to Wirsbo. None of them will have trouble landing on their feet since they are some of the brightest. No one is presumably irreplacable and I'm sure Uponor has it's reasons. My little voice tells me they are more interested in selling pipe than being a radiant floor heating company any longer.
I am excited, though. After 15 years of offering Wirsbo to my clients, it's now time to write a new chapter with someone else. The only thing constant is change.

Bingo, hb ...
... not that there's anything wrong with a company deciding to change their course. This gives the competition (like the company I work for, for instance), the opportunity to win the business that Uponor now seems to take for granted, by (here's a concept for ya) earning it.

Thank You Jim
Things are going very well. I am back in the contracting game, this time as an owner instead of an employee. My business is growing nicely and for the most part were all having fun. Take care!

I'm with Dan on this
I agree with Dan and others on this subject, Uponor (it will always be Wirsbo to me) has lost some exceptional people for whatever reason. Another Company will be very fortunate to land these people. Uponor did not get where they are today by having complacent or under performing employees. Just my thoughts - T0 -
COMPETITION
Perhaps they are losing market share and their competitors are growing?0 -
I think Rick may have been taken out of context. I think he was just trying to play devils advocate by offering up another perspective on the matter.
Let's not alienate our brother here.
I do know for a fact that many of these folks left Uponor on their own accord. Perhaps it was just a good opportunity to seek out other avenues.
I for one am just glad to see guys like Tim Doran and John Barba end up in better positions. I really like the fact that John ended up at Taco. Taco is a great company. A match made in heaven. I can't wait til next week when I get to go to Taco and attend his class!!0 -
Tim D
Hey Tim, do you remember Ernie Chase? Sorry to hear your not at Uponor anymore, you are right, you guys all deserved better. Drop me a line sometime, I like to hear from you.

As is plainly evident by the many postings by people who have been touched by some very good people, this is a story that should be told by those in the know. Speculation has a way of gaining a life of it's own. If I were a big head up at Uponor, I would post a word of some sort on this forum.
Although some might say it's none of your business, I say it is my business to know who I'm dealing with. If I felt a good friend had been given an unfair hosing, it would make it more difficult to continue to do business as if nothing had changed.0 -
I did not mean to offend
Simply stating people come and go all the time, I didn't me to insinuate that Tim did a poor job, if you took it that way I am sorry. The pricing, quality, availability & product support is really how the business world works.
If a company gets stagnant and has to make changes they have to live with their decision. Just stating we have a great Rep and definitely a fantastic product. I know John Barba and I would guess he's much happier back on the east coast working for Taco.
I have a different perspective that a contractor being a supplier. I sometimes take a business approach and not a personal one. If I offended, I am truly sorry...

Got me thinking
Many moons ago, I was working on a new hi-rise in the Big Apple.
I worked on that project for a long time, It was winding down, and the
owners were moving in. We were still there tweaking a little this or that on the plumbing fixtures. I knew well in advanced that the company I worked for no longer had much work. Still, I felt very proud of this new building that I helped built and went to work each day, which at that point was just roaming the halls.
I knew I was getting laid off any day, But when I finally got my last check, my heart sank, and I felt hurt and took it personally.
I now know it just business. We move on.
I'm sure JB, and Tim and all who worked for Uponor will do well whatever they do, and land on their feet. In the end we are part of hydronics industry and we are employed by our passion for it.
Question for those who know? What happened to Wes, is he still there?

"That the sales force and the others were coasting and not performing? Isn't that at all possible? We have an independent rep for Uponor, he's one of the best reps we have. I certainly haven't seen a drop in quality have you?"
Rick, I think from your comment about..."one of the best reps we have" suggests he is good because of the individual person and not the job title. If they made a change in direction and he was no longer around would he be replaced with someone as good? Maybe, maybe not.
"Most people who are let go deserve it don't they?" Rick, maybe you should read some more of the books from Dan's reading list.....That is a generalization that is unwarranted. Racism is another form of generalization.
"I have a different perspective that a contractor being a supplier. I sometimes take a business approach and not a personal one. If I offended, I am truly sorry..."
Rick, I am also employed by a supplier and I think the "business" is made up of people(good and bad) Your right about businesses making decisions to change directions. But are these good decisions (that remains to be seen).
I can tell you I have personally sold a lot of Uponor Pex tubing and I have a house where the Aquapex tubing is cracking internally. The Uponor Rep was there in January and sent in a piece to be inspected. I haven't heard anything since, except, "I'm trying to get an answer." In the past it didn't take nearly this long and it was usually an installation problem etc.
The Regional Sales Mgr. and the Uponor rep have been trying to get an answer. Is this change in direction the cause of this delay??? I don't know the answers, but it will shake out with time........January to June seems like a lot of time, doesn't it?
0 -
Hey Bobbgy
I said my piece, apologized and moved on. I am sorry you are so deeply moved by all of this. In 27 years I have seen good and bad move on and the world kept on turning. Great product, great service, great Rep, hmmm what am I missing? Oh yeah nothing. Time to worry about Iraq and gas prices instead of **** pex...0 -

So where are you now Tim Doran?
You used to be in the Dundas area, are you my latest competetitor?

I suspect it already is the answer you seek - and refuse to accept.
The silence will continue, until your attorney drops them a line.
I suspect you'll get the answer then.

Hey Jim
Good to hear from you. I am back on Long Island now. I work mostly on the east end of the south fork. How are things with you?0 -
I agree
That poster's comment was a blatant generalization and unfair to those it was directed toward.0
