I gotta crow a little bit
Picture the old barnyard rooster sitting on a post proclaiming loudly that he is master of all that he sees and you have the right mental image.
It's been a month now, lacking 2 days exactly since my last Winston. After smoking for what amounts to my entire life I finally think I have it beat and I'm pretty tickled about it. Especially true given the stress level business wise of late.
For anyone reading this and thinking about quitting yourself, you have no excuse any more. There's a new drug out that really takes the "pain" out of quitting. Just go to your doctor and ask him for a prescription for Chantix. This stuff blocks the nicotine from the part of your brain that's addicted to it and it flat out works. I smoked for a little over a week and half after starting to take it and after that time, burning one just ceased to have any effect. There was no "buzz" or satisfaction in lighting one up. I still have the thought and physical habit to deal with but it's just mind over matter at this point. The hard part, getting off the nicotine, is done.
I just thought about this now because when I got up this morning I didn't spend 5 minutes coughing, my lungs didn't hurt and I slept the whole night without waking up gasping for air. The better half says I don't wake her up with my snoring any more and I don't smell as revolting as I used to. (Those are good things)
So for anyone who is considering quitting, just do it. I've tried patches, gum, Smoke Away, herbal junk and none of it worked. I even went cold turkey until my family and employees threatened to leave due to my surly attitude. (It wasn't pretty) If this stuff worked for me it'll work for darn near anyone.
JUST DO IT!0 -

Can you imagine...
Being in the same room with Chris and Steve three weeks or so ago?
Given the proper munitions, Baghdad would be peaceful today...

Keep it up Steve
Perhaps it is fitting that this coincides roughly with your new grandchild.
New beginnings of all kinds should be recognized.
Best to you and yours-

Keep at it Bunkie!!!!
6 weeks for me on the Fourth...and Milne will attest that I was a bit "polluted"...but did NOT smoke.I wanted to,but didn't!
It does get easier. I will admit to a small spell this morning leaving the grocery store, when a lady lit up just as we were walking out the door.(I just stood there sniffing, but really wanted to grab and run with it)
Congratulations Steve! Now...we gotta work on Hunt! Snicker! Chris0 -
The dumbest thing i ever did
was start smoking again. but I quit again and if I make it a month It will feel good. A big help is the employee who smoked no longer works for me and not being around it all day sure helps. I will never under stand why somthing that feels so good can be so bad but such is life.0 -
Revolting
The better half says I don't wake her up with my snoring any more and I don't smell as revolting as I used to.
It's nice to have your wife say you're not as revolting as you used to be. So now you're only half as revolting as before? ;-)
I have never smoked, but from what I can tell quitting is a major accomplishment. Congratulations, Steve.0 -
smoking
I got one of my employees to stop smoking too. He gained a few pounds but is happy to get rid og the smoke.

JCA
I have to say that you were part of my inspiration. I'd been thinking about it since January 28th. That's the day that I reached the same age as my dad was when he died. It sounds a little strange but that milestone shifted my perspective on a few things. The better half, the kids, even the grandkids had been pestering me and then I saw your post about quitting and I thought..........yep, I gotta do it. Just do it. My nephew had just quit with the Chantix. He smoked like a house on fire and said it went great. So between all those things and your show of determination, I decided now was the time.
I agree that we need to call out Hunt on this. NOW!
We have to get him to quit before deer season so he doesn't have the BIG ONE up in the Adirondacks. Some poor dude he's hunting with will have to drag his sorry butt out of the woods along with the deer. Wouldn't be right.
Can'tcha tell we really do love ya Marky???0 -

No comment on the revolting part. You'd have to ask her.
Or.......maybe not would be best.0 -
Spoke with Mark an hour ago
Sitting in his pool enjoying a few "Twisted Teas" Temp today was high 90's. I wish Mark would stop, I need him to swear at me for the next 30 years...
