about subsidies, it would explain a lot.
And if the personal income tax were replaced with a carbon tax, it would encourage people to conserve even more, and reduce the size of the IRS as well. That's a win-win situation unless you work for the IRS.
In my house, I use mostly fluorescent lighting, decrease the heat loss whenever the opportunity arises, and don't use A/C. Been doing it this way for years. As a result, TLN and I have some of the lowest energy costs in the neighborhood.
But as long as there are still non-flame-retention oil burners out there, and old round boilers, we still have a long way to go. How many of these do we still see?
The attached pics show one way to dress up a fluorescent fixture. Beneath the glass diffuser is a standard chrome fixture with a 40-watt circular fluorescent tube. This tube gives about the same light as a 150-watt incandescent bulb, lasts much longer, and the "warm" color duplicates the incandescent glow. The only thing you can't do with this type of fixture is use it with a dimmer.

That......
.....was a very interesting read. I'm not intelligent enough to debate any of the suggestions the writer is making, but he almost makes it sound too easy and good to be true. Any opinions?

Always a good read
I've been a RS fan for many years. Articles like that I file away for reference in a few years.
It's a good way to stay somewhat current on the music scene also.
I saw a clerk at out local Barnes and Nobel turning all the issues face down a while back. A controversial cover photo...
I flipped them back right side up when she walked away.
