oil to gas conversion

How's it going guys? I'm new to The Wall and only a 3rd year plumbing apprentice, so as you can imagine i have a lot of questions.
A friend of mine was asking me about converting his boiler from oil to gas. What I would like to know is can this be done by simply changing the oil gun to a gas gun and running the necessary gas pipe or does the boiler also need to be replaced?
I don't have any specifics on the system in question, if I need to let me know. thanks in advance.

    system info

You would need to know the boiler and model. You can then contact the manufacturer direct and they can inform you if their system is designed to be switched from one product to another..

    do the research

    Joey,
As lcmhb mentioned in order to determine whether or not the boiler is compatable for a oil to gas conversion you 1st need to contact the manufactorur with the model & serial # for the official blessing.

Even better, why not make this a real educational mission?

    How about:
Determining what type of distribution system your dealing with.
    Perform a heat loss.
Can you improve the heat retention of the home?
Consider new boilers and the effiency gains possible.
What are the benefits of converting?
What are the benefits of staying with oil?
Would he be better off adding some reset controls to his existing oil boiler?

Joey, If you research, ask questions, weigh the different opinions, come to a conclusion, offer some options, you have effectivly jump started your journey towards a clearer understanding of how one decision impacts another.

Good luck and keep asking questions.

    Keith
