I saw that on the local news last night. Wow! I too wondered how the heck do the handlebars get caught in the grill while crossing the street. It was an electric model chair. I guess the transmission must have a neutral:)

Probably safe to say that the semi would have it's way with the wheel chair regardless of the "transmission" on the chair.

50 MPH?? Screaming on that ride would be debatable, as you would quickly get your fill of bugs.
I would also imagine that spinning the DC motor in the chair that fast would quickly recharge the battery!!

I figured...

I figured that if he was crossing the sidewalk and the truck started to pull out, the first thing he'd do is turn away from it - this would be a normal instinctive reaction. Given that, it would appear the truck easily out accelerated his attempt to get away from it.
