water treatment & wet lay up of old boiler

I AM A HOMEOWNER.
I HAVE AN OLD CLIMATROL 100000 BTU CIS BOILER (50 YRS OLD GRAVITY FED SYSTEM). I BLOW DOWN THE LWCO & PERFORM BOTTOM BLOWDOWN WEEKLY. THERE IS STILL ALOT OF MUD IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOILER. I WANT TO CHEMICALLY TREAT THE WATER FOR REMOVAL OF SCALE & CORROSION, PRIOR TO DUMPING THE BOILER. AFTER THAT I AM GOING TO PUT THE BOILER INTO WET LAYUP FOR THE SUMMER.
PLEASE ADVISE ON WATER TREATMENT FOR BOTH OPERATIONS.

REGARDS-JF

I'd start by flushing it out with a hose

cleaning chemicals in steam systems should only be used as a last resort, since they must be completely removed from the system when done. This can be difficult.

We have been able to avoid using chemicals by flushing the boiler sections with a hose under street pressure, getting as much gunk out as we can, then skimming the rest. Normally this procedure gets all or most of the dirt.

Is yours one of the old Climatrol boilers made by the Mueller company?
