    Steely Dan

They always had a great sound. Did their live music sound just like their studio recordings?

I saw them about ten years ago and they sounded muddled.

Last night sounded really good. Fagens voice is getting weaker but still sounds good. I love a band with Horns !!

    I saw....

A "blurb" on the news this late morning...and they sounded wonderful.

So...did you see something other than a plane from Logan flying by...around 10:00?

I'm telling ya...a rough night to be sure...but still smoke free!

Did you see them backing Santana at the Garden? (mind you...10 years is about 1/2 the trip back, bunkie!) Chris

    I just saw them...

In Walligford, CT same thing, great show and they pretty much played all the ones you listed. What's the title of the one about touring the southland? That's one of my favorites and they played it here, did they play it in Boston too? I'm a guitar player so I emailed their guitarist, Jon Herington, with some technical questions the morning after and he and I traded several emails including one where he said he'd be interested in doing a workshop here in Hartford sometime in the next couple years. If it happens I'll post it here, you might want to trip down and see him. Fagen still sounded OK to me...

Go back, Jack, and do it again...

I guess all the exitement over this show is the reason why Bonzo's birthday went by unannounced today? Steely Dan is a great group, though - different than any other in style. Do they retain the same musicians, other than the 2 main guys, over the years?

    Pretzel Logic

and NO they did'nt play it .... I would have LOVED to here that.

Steely Dan is Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. They change musicians all the time. Some stay longer, some only one song.

AS I told my wife: they are the Coolest Band out there !!

    Sorry,,,

That tune brings back a whole set of memories, I won't tell you I got a little misty eyed... ;) I was interested in whether they palyed the same set every night or mixed it up so that answers that. I didn't want to bother Jon with too many questions. He's a good guy. I DO know this is the second tour in a row that he's done with them but I can't speak for the rest of the band. They had 12 people on stage. I was telling him there's nothing I like better than a band with horns and backup singers. If I was to complain, I'd say the show here seemed a bit short.

    Yes Yes !!

Horns and Back up singers , thats Key !!

I was saying the same thing today, I love band with horns.

My favorite concert ( and Ive seen alot ) was Buddy Rich at a High School with fifteen horns. It must come from my parents playing Big Band when I was a kid ..

    And when Brad gets here

maybe he can explain, in his own inimitable way, where the name "Steely Dan" came from.

    ;-)

    Sorry.

Damn spell-check. It's FourPlay, not foreplay. Obviously a play on words.

Bob James, p. Nathan East, b. Lee Ritenaur or Larry Carlton, g. Harvey Mason, d.

One of the finest jazz quartets of recent time. Heavily recorded and long standing. CD's, DVD's and live concerts that sell out well before showtime. Last seen live at The Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ

One of the best "smooth jazz" concerts I ever saw.

    Please!

SNOW at this time of year is most definitely a four letter word. Try and be more sensitive...

I don't want to have to ask Dan to put you on the banned list (:-o)
