fittings and pex

The warranty issue would be the reason I would be hesitant to interchange manufacturer's fittings. Great excuse for manufacturer's to void their warranty.

    what are your ....

thoughts on pex fittings and the cross brand usability....ex. using vanguard crimp fittings w/ wirsbo-uponor aqua pex...seeems to me if it is the same sdr-9 ratio w/ each pipe you could use them together...I have a couple of inpectors who will not let me do this (I have done it in my own house)...if the whole brand thing does not work that wat can I not use Mueller pvc fittings w/ Charlotte fittings....your thoughts gentlemen...kpc

I guess I would have to ask..........

........why? If you are using Uponor tube, why not use their factory fittings? I haven't had any issues with expanding, so why would I cheap up and use crimp rings, which don't work with their manifolds anyway?

    I suspect it is

fairly common that brands get switched. I'm not sure many, if any, tube manufactures actually machine their own fittings. Most are out sourced, plenty from China.

I've used Sioux Chief crimp fittings and rings for 15 years or more on many brands of pex. In fact they have made the fittings and manifolds for various tube manufactures, and still do.

It sometimes is an issue of availability and price. Even manufactures run short of inventory from time to time. Plenty of PAP users mixings fittings also. Just ask :)

If the fitting has the listings and SDR standard, what's the problem?

I also mix brands of copper tube and fittings as well as black and PVC. No problems so far.

    ASTM 876

All PEX tubing in the US must meet the requirements of ASTM Standard F876 which regulates ID & OD size. So ½” from Vanguard should be the same size as ½” from Rehau etc, but most manufacturers will not condone or warranty their PEX with another company’s fittings.

  • with PEX, as long as your rated to the same ASTM, fittings should be interchangable, however fittings must generally match the hardware they are adapting to (i..e vanguard fittings might not fit a wirsbo manifold).

with PAP, however, all bets are off. keep the fittings the same as the pipe manufacturer, in general.
