Member Posts: 6
I looking to replace a steam boiler in a house I just bought. It currently have an oil fired hot water heater. I would like to have an indirect fired water heater. What are the pro and cons of switching over to a hot water system.

You can use an indirect with a steamer
as long as it is approved for this use. Check with the manufacturer to be sure.
I wouldn't convert a steam system to hot water. There are too many things that can go wrong- go here for more:

We have found that it is much more cost-effective to fix steam systems than convert them. Some of our customers have saved over 30% on their fuel consumption, without replacing the boiler yet!
There should be some good steam men near you- try the Find a Professional page of this site to locate one. If you're in the Baltimore area, contact me!
