Sizing Circulators

So each circ has a curve of its potential flow rates given different system dynamics--like pipe diameter, length of run etc. So an installer would have to measure these things before choosing a particular circulator--seems almost as important as a heat calc to me.

Looking at Steamhead's Circ Sizing Chart on this site's Hot Tech Topics, it looks like he used a single zone system as an example. But in reality in a multizone system, each circ would be sized for the MBH of the existing radiation, yes? So that could vary greatly and might require very different sized circs on the varied zones? I know some circs are variable speed but can their curve be adjusted otherwise?

I started thinking about this because in my basement I always hear the heat racing through the baseboard and wondered if the speed might be preventing water from releasing its heat. I'm sure I'll switch to cast iron baseboard someday for more comfort. Original job back in 80s was not pumping away and not alot of other things.....

Thanks,

David
