Elbows, tees, etc. on the way? Is 19 feet the distance or developed equivalent length?

What size pipe?
Steamer, 262,500btu input, 19' of pipe from meter to boiler, what size pipe should be run?
Thanks in advance, Adam0 -
Gas
IS this LP or natural and what pressure is available?0 -
Pipe
Natural gas, 19' total pipe length with 3 90's and 1 T at the boiler.0 -
You want
to know what pressure the gas company will provide at the meter outlet and what pressure your equipment will require but under "normal" conditions 1" pipe will suffice.

As Dan Says
It Depends...0 -
I agree with Jack
With the fittings plus length you describe I get about 32 equivalent linear feet (short radius MI elbows and tee).
With a total pressure drop not exceeding 0.20 inches you may get away with 3/4 (good for 40 ELF at that PD) but I would definitely go with 1 inch.0 -
I agree with Brad and Jack
at least 1 inch.
Is this by any chance, a Utica or Columbia boiler?

consider ....
while doing your sizing, possible future add-ons...it can happen:) thought to roll that by you...have a habby day.0 -
Yup.........
Utica steamer!0 -
I messed up!
Mea Culpa-
I re-checked and used the wrong scale, dumb error. I would go with 1-1/4" IPS for that gas load and length. 1 inch is just too close to the line IMHO. I increased the TEL to 40 feet based on the larger pipe size.
1" might work fine, but just too close with no reserve.
The 1-1/4" will also allow you to handle some future loads up to 400 CFH by the way, as Weezbo suggested.0 -
Don't forget to check the meter.
Is it large enough for the total requirements of the building. Around here a 275cfh meter is standard.0 -
Ahh yes, the PEG-262
which is also sold as the Columbia CEG-262.
Do yourself a favor and double-check ALL your safeties (LWCO, pressuretrol, vent damper end switch, blocked-flue switch). I ran into one of these boilers where two wires were reversed from the factory, and as a result none of the safeties worked. And yes, the burners fired with the vent damper closed, and the blocked-flue switch couldn't shut it down.
Dropped headers work great on these boilers. Here's one I worked on several years ago. The tees at the steam outlets, and a similar one at the return tapping, really make it easy to flush or skim this boiler.

Yep, that's a regular problem in my parts
And it seems I am the only one checking this, as I've been on installations where many pieces of new equipment have been installed over time and nobody checked the meter. Undersized gas lines are also reeeeal common. I often see only 3/4 inch main, after regulator, coming into a 2000 sq. ft. plus home. Also, on propane, no one ever checks the regulators! REAL SCARY!

We had a heck of a one last year
We were called out to determine why the 5 year old pool heater had failed as well as why the new one wasn't running right.
150K pool heater, 125K furnace, 50K water heater, 65K range, 30K gas fireplace & 20K gas dryer. Oh, and I forgot, the generator that required 14" NG pressure on the 7" 250cfh meter. I realize it's not all going to run at once but is it unreasonable to think the pool heater, furnace, water heater and range all might be on the same time?
And the pool heater was over 100' from the house with the meter as far from the pool heater as it could be. I think the total run was something like 200'. The incoming gas pressure dropped to 1.5" at the pool heater gas valve.0
