A word of caution...

THanks to China. "LOOKS GOOD" on the exterior, but is really bad casting technology.

A little paint does wonders...

Harbour Freight sells nothing BUT Chinese.

    Off topic, but...

Be careful when using this type of cheap (Harbor Freight) jack stand. They are rated for 3 tons. I had a 2.5 ton car sitting on four of them. When I finished and pulled one out, it fell apart.

    Scary,

    OOOH!

I suppose the 3 ton limit is strictly vertical. That cast post can't handle any lateral load. I have 4 of those at home myself, but haven't used them in years.

Glad to hear your okay Jim. I have two Chicago hydraulic lifts rated for 6 ton but like My Bob's would say "I doubt it". No wonder they call Chicago Chi-town aka Chinatown.

You get what you pay for. Harbor Freight sells garbage.

    I know...

Actually they were a gift. I threw the other three away also.

Now the challange will be to find a set NOT made in China.

    Chi-Bash

Hey, hey now...I LIVE in Chicago. Just because Harbor Freight's Chinese supplier wants to name their crap after our fair city shouldn't cast aspersions on our reputation. As a matter of fact we DO have a chinatown. 22nd and Cermak.

Thanks for the heads up on the jackstands. I'm not generally litigious but man...that's scary and a lawsuit could be in order. Thank God nobody was hurt. I lost a brother to a jacked car incident 31 yrs ago. Mom still cringes even if we are just changing a tire.

I have a close friend who had the same tragedy happen. His brother was under a trailer when it gave. Very sad . . .

    Where do they go, anyway?

How do you decide where to position jack stands? It can't be where the jack is supposed to be used, because that's where the jack is when you raise the car. The car's OEM repair manual lists spots for jack and lifts, but not for jack stands.

    Jack Stands

I only use Snap-On Jack stands.

Expensive as all heck, but I'm worth it.

    Stay safe, Guys.

I pay to have my car fixed by a pro. Just like homeowners should call a pro to fix their boiler. We should pay a pro to fix out car.
