Dust From Steam Heat?

The Wire Nut

When the boiler turned on for the first time at my office building at the start of the heating season, and the radiators got hot for the first time, I noticed a ton of dust appeared to be kicked up in the office. Can anyone explain that?
A co-worker thought it was soot from the boiler, but I told her I didn't see how soot could travel through steel pipes and radiators. I thought it might be that the heat of the radiators unsettled any dust that had settled on them since the last time they were hot. Is that possible?

ur right on the money
Ur right on the money, EF. Yes, those months of off season, the dusts will collected and then the first heat, it'll"fly" off... Many customers I know will do their "spring" cleaning in the fall for this reason...0
