Kind of like the visible human & horse models of our youth. I was more into planes....

I swear Dan posted some pictures a few years ago. The model boiler was set up under a canopy outside on a rainy day, if I recall.

Wish it were true or someone had done it because that would be the most mesmerizing thing ever on a one-pipe steam system. This would be strictly for engineering and or observational purposes of course.

    Weil-McLain did

they mounted a boiler, feed tank and oil tank on a trailer and piped it in glass. You can see everything that happens in that header. It also has a glass porthole on the front so you can see what's going on inside the boiler. Amazing, the effect of a tablespoonful of vegetable oil dumped into the boiler....

Did you happen to get that on video? Figured they'd use vegetable oil since that's all they use in their plants, right?

Most excellent Noel, thank you so much. How many tablespoons were thrown in there? What a very enlightening display by W/M.

    Dan,

The PPMCSA also has one permanently installed and piped at their training facility near Harrisburg PA. It is an extremely well set up lab with many HVAC unit of all types there, (not just oil).

Weil holds their steam heating seminars there under the PPMCSA and I think also for the NORA training.

It is a great learning tool to see that boiler in operation.

They are holding the class Oct 9 of this year.

Also, the boiler is in center frame in the attached.

    Glass pipe boiler

The PPMCSA has one at their facility near Harrisburg PA.
It is really interesting to see in operation.

I attended a Weil-McLain steam boiler seminar there last year. The next one is in October.

    See the attached.

    Someone posted pics

of threaded glass plugs a while ago . It wouldn't be as nice as seeing the all glass piping on the Weil Mclain , but some strategically piped tees in the header with the glass plugs and you could see some coll stuff happening .

Weil McLain now has this boiler in their new factory,

Which I had the pleasure of touring recently has part of their spring training called The School of Better Heating. Here's a few pictures of the boiler.
