How do you figure the btu output and load with such a set up? And you would probably need a larger radiator valve.

    Electric fan for steam radiators

Does any one know about these electric fans that have a sensor that hooks up to the last section of a steam radiator. When the temp. is reached, the fan kicks on and blows hot air. When the temp decreases, the fan kicks off. Where can I find these units. Thanks

    fan for rads

Never saw one on the market, but have built many. Used in basements, we set two small rads on the floor piped in series. We set a box window fan in between the two rads and use an aquastat on the line. The fan pulls thru one rad and pushes through the other. Works just like a unit heater and really cranks out the heat.

    figuring size/load

There is nothing scientific about this setup. It is on the return from the second floor zone and just uses whatever heat is left in the loop before it gets back to the boiler. It is set up on a Tstat and is in a workshop area. The unit has an add-on TARM boiler and there has never been a lack of available heat. It was strictly an afterthought by the owner and we installed it, with voiced reservations, with an aquastat that limits the fan if no heat is present. Just a typical jury-rig add-on that works great. (yes we did protect the boiler from low temp possibilities)
