    Can someone tell me

Does Kinko's, or other printing service, have the capability to scan a set of prints and convert it to a jpeg file? Anyone ever have this done?

I always have to go to an engineering company that sells transits & such. They have plan copiers & scanners and do give CD's. Here it is Monson Engineering.

    how perfect

do they need to be? The quick way is to take a picture with a digital camera. If the camera isn't exactly over the print there will be some distortion of the scaling.

    yes,...

    Many times.

First: you might want to see if your digital camera can take high resolution pictures, try with flash and without.

second: any blueprint shop, such as Ben Franklin or whatever you have in your area, it is quite common and becoming a standard practice for large jobs.

    Digital Camera

I was hand copying some info off a permit set on a job and my helper adjusted the camera resolution and shot these. At one time I had a pdf writing program so when I recieved pdf floor plans I could sketch on the 'puter my ducts layout. If it's just for future referencing the digital camera works great.

This is a commercial buildout. The GC wanted me to drill all those joists for Ultra-Fin. He reused the old 2"X14" true dimension joists. I talked him into an overpour.

EDIT: The pics on file are a little more manageable than the two sizes posted on The Wall attachments

Yepper, I get it done often

I use a reprographic service here that will scan my large prints and convert them to jpeg for me. I usually get them placed on a CD and then I can alter the drawings with my auto-cad program. After the alterations, they will reprint them for me with all the changes. Not cheap, but sure worth it for the convenience. I had planned on buying a scanner until I heard the $13,000 price tag. For the $75 or so I pay them, I'll stick with their services.
