Look out Perry!

Well this is just the latest in the new green power revolution. I suppose there will be power surges around Thanksgiving!

    A fowl idea, indeed.

Actually, this really isn't that new. It may be the biggest such plant; but converting manure into energy is a really old trick. Dried dung has been burned for thousands of years - and is still used today in many parts of the world. Great for cooking - slow steady heat.

Of course; you do have to dry it first. Nature only goes so far. I suspect that this plant is force drying it.

On the other front, huge digesters have been producing methane gas - and bedding residue for years as well. Run the methane to a generator and you have electical production (and there are a lot of these plants arround).

Here in Wisconsin they are touting how our state can become a biofuels leader in the nation by growing and converting all kinds of different plant products - or using existing products to create biofuels.

The key problem - as the reference article points out - is that these products - or the land that would be used to grow more stuff - are already being used somewhere.

In the end - biofuels from plant products will affect food supply and other industries. I'll bet that they will not consider those cost into the calculation of how much money the can make in biofuels.

As far as manure power. Might I suggest a diet of beans and other legums. Biology at its best - and at least you won't be silent but deadly...
