What sort
of building is this, Jeff?Retired and loving it.0 -
Building
This is an apartment house about 200 or so dose this room serve. The Federal goes and I am putting in 3 Lochinvar Copperfin 1796.. It will be a 6" P/S manifold. The three way comfort valve has already been removed by someone else, this right now is a winter-summer setup, and with no three way the 6' main were 180* about 100' down the run yikes. Those are some hot hallways in the summer not to mention with no loop reset in the winter the tenants were using the classic window thermostat very wasteful.

Sell?
Whats that , I don't do the selling. But I imagine the fuel bill had something to do with it. This the third job for this cust. the last two were Cleverbrooks changed to copperfinII 2070 I put in 6 in that room and the other I put in 8 peerless 211a-09 quite a job. What I did observe at all three of these jobs was the dust covered water treatment pump and chemicals left and forgotten seems to me the new owner moved in and slashed the maintenance cost and therefore his boilers rot and leak. Here's some pics. I love that b-vent, I pitched a different vent option after i did the figuring and realized the sight it was going to be, but cost drives these people. so 3-2-1- TAKEOFF

There, no leak
There were still lots more fire tubes to plug in case of leak, so far they had only plugged two of them I suppose those must have been leaking too much.
After saving so much on tube maintenance, it's no wonder they decided to splurge on new boilers.
I kind of like the rocket look. I imagine all the little kids that will draw pictures of their home with the cool half dozen smokestacks. Everyone will know where they live.0 -
vic vs. cop
Have you found that using vic where you did was in the end a $$$ saver? Also what type of pipe dope did ya use? That looks like blu-block. I NEVER had a job not leak with that stuff. On steam we use wick & dope, and tape & dope on hw. No more leaks.0 -
Gruvlok
Yes I find it to save $$$$ the time to assemble is reduced and the skill level needed to assemble is also less. So I can break free and lay out the next bunch of fittings while some helpers work to put together the first bunch. It is Gruvlok from Anvil not Vic I have looked into Vic but they have a short list compared to Gruv. Gruv has A lot of options and the distribution center is close by. As far as the pie do I now use Permatex 14D white stuff its the best I found and yes always tape then dope. By the way the Gruv never leaks PERIOD and if you messed up the lay out take it apart and reuse it the right way.

Well, re-attach it!
He is a tough guy, but still needs and uses his head obviously
Nothing like laying the groundwork for major pipe runs. This is a good project; the owners should be pleased!0 -
Nice job, the only thing I noticed however was on the picture with the stacks on the roof. I see a very small wall louver, is that all the combustion air for these units?0
