Anyone know of any sort of fix for somone who didn't install a vapor barrier and now has vapor problems? Had a customer ask me this today.
Slab on grade. Sand below. Wants to install radiant.

what exactly is a vapor problem?
What is the vapor and where is it coming from? There are sealers that can be aplied to the top of a slab, but I would rather see the problem addressed lower down, especially if these are dangerous "vapors" like radon gas for example.

Well Bob there is a musty smell in the daylight basement. There is really no chance of doing a vapor barrier below. What do you think about sealing the cement installing a vapor barrier and then some sort of Radiant Track?

Epoxy Paint?
That is the only resilient coating I can imagine that will stop the vapor but I imagine you will have to take it up the walls also a bit if not all.
That said, I can see a good floated epoxy floor coating under some EPS with the radiant floor system of your choice. If you have the height, I would do a pour on top.0 -
Still the smell
is from some source. Mold? High water table, inadequate drainage, leak, something.
Sure you could coat the floor, sealing the edge to the walls or any penetration through the slab could be a problem.
Is there a sump pump inside? A french drain system? Dead rodents
I'm not sure an over pour even with a vapor barrier in between would solve the odor issue 100%.
I'd be leery of putting that in writing.

Thanks Brad.. Thanks Hot Rod. I will pass your advice onto the homeowner. As for myself I think I will sit this job out.
