And for a minute I thought there was a problem with them.
I just installed one a few weeks ago after seeing them in a booth at Tacoma RadFest.

    NEWS FROM MCDONNELL & MILLER

    MCDONNELL & MILLER ANNOUNCES BULLETIN
    FOR NEW SELF-CLEANING PROBES

Chicago, Ill., June 28, 2006 - A bulletin (MM-280) that describes the new McDonnell & Miller self-cleaning probe for low water cut-offs is now available. The new low water cut-off probe uses a cleaning device - that due to water flow - oscillates around the probe, combating lime build-up and extending probe maintenance to five years.

The bulletin describes how minerals such as calcium tend to cling to the metal parts of the probe rather quickly when heated and how this can lead to excessive lime build-up and as a result, annoying boiler shutdowns, water overfill, and expensive maintenance repairs.

The new self-cleaning probe joins McDonnell & Miller's wide range of popular electronic low water cut-offs and products for hot water and steam boilers and systems.
McDonnell & Miller, a unit of ITT Industries, is a leading manufacturer of boiler controls, flow switches, liquid level controls and steam specialty products for residential, commercial and industrial applications. Can I just say that these units are really cool? I was very impressed when I saw the first one the other day. Why didn't anyone think of this sooner?
