Small width handtrucks ?

I had the same problem, the solution I had was simple....

Buy the hand truck you want, or your existing truck and take it to a steel fab shop. For 100 bucks they made 2 cuts down the middle and welded it back together. Works great but I still want a regular truck because the wider width when there is room for it actually helps keep the load from tipping over more than you realize!!!

  • Anyone know

where to look for boiler weight capacity handtrucks smaller in width than the standard 24 inches ? We use the heavy duty style with the extra wheels that glide up the stairs ( I forget the brand name ) . We're working in homes more and more often with doorways that are smaller than the handtruck can fit through .

Thanks in advance , Ron .

    Got a Porta Band?

although it will probably void the warranty.... it may be the best way to get the exact dimension you desire.

I'd take the Cosmo route also :)

  • I don't think

I'd have the heart to cut a working handtruck in 2 :)

We used to have a small aluminum handtruck with the stair wheels , but it didn't have the lean bar wheels that come on the larger handtruck . Thanks for the ideas Cosmo and Hot Rod . Would you guys happen to know any handtruck manufacturers ?

    Shop locally

I remember a lift truck company in Salt Lake that would build custom hand trucks. You could select frame type and material, wheel type, tie down types, stair walkers, etc.

I don't remember different widths however.

You might look into hand trucks used for O2 and actylene tanks at a welding supply shop. These seem to be pretty narrow.

I still think you are headed for a custom built one :) All the components are in the Graingers catalog or Northern Tool.com

Gather the pieces you like and drop by a local welding shop with a drawing.

Google hand trucks for a boatload of info also.
