overhead oil line keeps loosing its prime

If the line keeps getting airbound, there is a STRONG possibility of a leak at a fitting. Oil may not come out, but air is considerably thinner than oil and will pull in to the line. A tiger loop may mask this, but I personally would rather have the leak fixed.

overhead oil line keeps loosing its prime
is there an inline booster type pump to push from a 275 tank to a small suntec pump?0 -
Oil line
Is it losing its prime or pulling a high vaccum becasue of air in the lines? If there are any slight air bubbles in the system they will eventually settle to the highest point in the system. Over time, all the little air bubbles come together and form 1 large air bubble that the oil pump can't over come. Symptom seems alot like the pump has lost its prime and is common in overhead oil lines.
Solution: with a vaccum gauge on the fuel pump, close the valve at the tank and allow the pump to pull a high vaccum (15-20 inches w.c.) and then open the valve at the tank. You should see the oil (and air) come blasting through the line. Repeat this 7 or 8 times until vaccum is close to zero. Keep in mind that if this is the problem this procedure will have to be performed everytime the oil system is opened ie. replace filter, run out of oil, etc...

Is there an old style drop lever valve on the tank? If so, remove it and install a new fire-o-matic wheel type.
Check your flares, pump cover gasket, and any pump fittings

"Get a Tiger Loop , problem solved"? How about problem masked!0 -
Dave, more to the story please
Is it a new install, new line or old line that just started to have this happen? What size line and how long?0 -
Check your flares
Had the same problem recently. Same situation of overhead oil lines, damned if it wasn't a bad flare. No oil out but air getting in. Just enough to drive you nuts.0 -
fine
yes you should check and repair leaks , but i'm still tiger fan I like the oil recircing back through it.
