Under 100 bucks for a downloadable version

It has many of the great features of the Load program in the HDS software like the area and volume calculator.

This new version allow you to build a limitless variety of wall, ceiling, and floors, including SIPs and ICFs.

Then you can build and print out a Heating Cost Estimate based on fuel cost and equipment choices.

Should be available tomorrow at www.hydronicpros.com, along with a free demo version.

Two years in the works, thanks to Siggy and Mario for thinking about us :)

    It's coming

Mario and I had hoped to have out newest software (Heat Load Pro) up on July 4th. We got a couple of days behind due to holiday. Still hoping it will be up on the site by this weekend, so check back on Friday evening. Here's a PDF file that briefly explains the software. It will be available for $99 (download) and $115 on CD. We think you're going to like it.

    Nice Teaser...

    Some questions:

    1) Can multiple exterior wall constructions be used in the same room? within the same wall?

    2) Can multiple ceiling constructions be used in the same room? Both exposed and against conditioned space?

    3) How are open stairwells treated? Can it give multiple floors (one or more of which have "holes" in the same logical "room" containing an open staircase?

    4) Is it possible to "construct" this ceiling? 5/8" drywall, 1" rigid foam, 9" cellulose, 1" solid wood, 3/4" plywood, carpet (and perhaps pad)? If not, are manual r-value inputs allowed?

    THANKS!

    Heat Load Pro

    Mike,

Heat Load Pro can handle two types of exposed walls in each room. Within a given exposed wall it can handle up to two types of windows and two types of doors. It can only have one type of EXPOSED ceiling (keep in mind that surfaces separating one heated space from another (at the same temperature) do not experience heat transfer). A stairwell is essentially another heated space and thus doesn't have heat transfer. You can always manually override all R-values generated by the program for special situations. Here is a shot of the main program screen. You can see the entire "definition" of the room on this screen (e.g. all exposed surfaces, windows, doors, etc.)

Here is another screen shot showing how a framed wall would be specified. Other types of wall constructions are accessed by clicking the wall type icons at the left side of screen.

    A few Questions:

    1. Often I will take a stairwell or floor over a crawlspace (some delta-T but not the Full Monte indoor to outdoor). Can I assign one of the wall types per room as "partition" and in so doing assign a different delta-T to that surface?

    2. Infiltration- After much in-house discussion our company has settled on a standard of "CFM per SF of Wall Surface" which is in ASHRAE. (This as opposed to every designer using ACH, crack method or CFM/SF as they preferred.) Does your infiltration allow for more than the ACH method?

    3. Will this product integrate as a module to the HDS program? It has the "look and feel" as well as shared aspects so it seems. Curious if it integrates or could, or has to stand on it's own.

Not intending to pick the product apart pre-release, just asking a few questions.

    Thanks!

    Brad

    Heat load Pro

    Brad,

You could treat the stairwell as an exposed floor and assign both a delta T and R-value to it.

The program is only set up for the air change method of air leakage heat loss.

Eventually this program will integrate with the next generation HDS software. No definite time table on that at this point.

    Not a problem

    Siggy-
This will fill a long-awaited niche especially with ICF and SIP constructions built-in. Looking forward to it.

And if I had not mentioned before, thank you for being so accepting of suggestions and comments and listening to your constituents!
