Control for dual condensing bouilers?

Pah, I am pretty sure that there is an interface kit that will allow a 0-10V modulating signal to the boiler VIA the outdoor reset connections.

At any rate Heat Timer has been making a control for several years that does just what you are looking to do. However Tekmar made the 265 which does the exact same thing only it is cheaper, and looks nicer.

Here is the kicker, Tekmar got into trouble for copying the Heat Timer so they can't sell the 265 until July of 2007 I believe. The reps are sitting on a ton of 265's and I know just where to get them if you are interested. Tekmar will still back up the 265's just like any other controller.

Basically it utilizes both dry contacts for enabling and of course the 0-10V modulating signal. There are a ton of options for equal run time and you can run the boilers in sequential or parrales modes.

  • Dual condensing boilers - management control options?

Running into several installations where the Mascot boiler has been specified. Two call for twinned boiler installations. Question: given that they have their own internal controls to manage outdoor reset, is there a control available to simply monitor both for run times and to bring both into play when the first one can't keep up with demand that wuill either work with, or not interfere with, their factory controls?

    From the Laars website:

The Mascot 167 & 242 MBTU boilers (HT 1.450 & HT 1.650) are packaged differently for potential commercial applications using either single or multiple boiler installations.

Unfortunately the only technical info (at the website) regarding the Mascot is for the smallest model in the line that doesn't appear to be designed for cascading operation (at least not mentioned for such).

If anything like other similar products, the boilers will "talk" to each other with one providing the base heat and other(s) dropping in to meet a load that exceeds the output of those before. The "base" boiler will probably rotate over time so that firing time is more equally shared among the boilers.

I suppose you could use a Tekmar control...

... they have staging controllers just for this kind of application where each boiler is excercised equally in terms of run time and cycles.
