Assuming proper sizing, that must be quite a master bedroom w/ 60K heatloss. My 2K sq/ft house is under 60K. How big is the steam boiler? Is that properly sized?

    customer has

an existing oil steam boiler which handles 90% of the house w/ steam radiators. there is a 60,000 btu gas boiler which handles the master bedroom suite hydronic baseboard. there is an 80,000 btu gas boiler which heating a 120 gallon indirect. they also have a 75 gallon gas water heater which i think heats the domestic water. i was thinking of putting one larger boiler to handle the steam and install a heat x to handle the hot water and 120 gallon indirect. then last night i was thinking in the summer, i'd be calling on the whole boiler just to heat the indirect if they decided to use the jacuzzi. would two boilers be better. one for steam and one for the hydronic and indirect?

the existing house has 760.5 edr of radiators. the steam boiler is 472,000 btu output w/1475 sq. ft steam rating. i know the 60,000 btu boiler is oversized for the hydronic but i think it would be better to call that on in the summer to fill the 120 gallon indirect than the steam boiler.

Typicaly a 1475 sqft house plus the windows and doors should not need more than 80,000 btuh.

If you are worried about domestic you have a problem on your hands with a 60,000 btuh boiler. Typically it take 50,000 BTUH to produce 1 gallon of hot water per minute at a 100 degree rise in temperatue. That means in the winter time water entering the house at 40 degrees F is heated to a maximum of 140 deg F.

Remember you need hot water for the dishwasher sterilizing cycle. The electric heating elements the dish wassher do not raise te water temperature very high.

You need look aa bit closer at what really is going on in the house.
