Oil Fired Conmdensing Boilers

I am interested in the new Peerless O.F. Condensing Boiler. My previous experience with this type of equipment is the GE boiler, which was also a downflow firing type. This led to coked nozzles and sooting. The boiler itself was highly efficient and for all I know, there may still be some out there, still working. There was a burner mfg. that sold a product that could be adapted to firing through the inspection door, in a horizontal configuration. The name escapes me. It was only about 30 years ago. I am now looking to replace my Peerless JO Series boiler, which is about 18 years old, with a higher efficiency product.
I am looking for any advice from the experts as to the practicality of a down firing Oil Fired product.

    The burner you

stuck in the inspection door was probably a Waltham DynaJet. A compromise, at best. The new Peerless (Hoval) is an interesting piece.

The burner used is a garden variety AFG Beckett, which worked well in the vertical postion (as did the Carlin 100 CRD) in GE Boilers. The package appears to have been designed for service simplicity. According to the Peerless folks, the unit is very forgiving. Only wish it was 2 stage. Available in 2 sizes.

What type of heat emitters do you have. If you don't have low temp radiation, you may not need a condensing unit at all.

Monitor makes a condensing oil unit, although I never worked on one so I cant say good or bad.

  • There is still

quite a few downfired GEs chugging along in Levittown . They'd last almost forever if it wasn't for leaky coil gaskets or packing nuts dripping very slowly for decades onto the top of the boiler .

Is the new Peerless oil condenser being sold yet ? Anyone install one ?
