Propane fired Vitodens..........hb

..... not about the Vitodens, per say. I have been doing maintenance on my Vitodens installs and they all fire propane. When I pull the Matrix Burner, there is always a pile of, what can be best described as, coffee grounds. Since I only use the Vitodens when burning propane, I have no other point of reference. Does propane always leave this residue in other boilers?

I've found a small amount of a substance that sounds similar when I clean mine. It burns natural gas. Does yours crumble easily when you rub it between your fingers? Dirt in combustion air and impurities in gas have both been suggested. I almost wonder if it's related to the sulphur-based odor compound added to gas.
Do you also see some staining in the condensate drain line? I also found a tiny gob of putty-like substance caught at the very end of the condensate drain line. Looks almost most rust-colored, but I've never seen rust particles form a "putty" and the color seems too bright. If I'm remembering properly, the color reminds me of what was left in a test tube after making "stink bombs" with my chemistry set.0 -
mouse turd looking?
that is what I find in LP fired condensors around my area. Oily when you squeeze them between your fingers. More like coffee grounds when they dry out. That and a white powder that cleans off easily with a plastic scrub brush.
I'm hearing about a green oily sludge in condensors back in Utah. It cleans out easily with factory approved cleaners, but still a hassle and F-10 callback headache. Sure does sound like various by products of the fuel being consumed.
I'm about to start breaking open some Knights and Weil Ultras for 1st year inspection. Curious as to what I will find.
I'm 90% LP around here I have a few NG units out there.
Wonder if those deposits would burn? We may be discovering that "miracle fuel pellet" a byproduct of mod con combustion
E-bay here I come!
