Pole Barn

Do they also turn the radiant way down then only raise the thermostat the morning of an event?

    Pole barn Radiant

Saw a good one today. Went to a graduation party at a 5000 Sq ft Pole barn. Nice set up. Poured 2500' of 1/2" pex in the floor. Trying to heat 2/3 of the barn with a 50 gal water heater LOL. Used in ground sprinkler zone valves. Complained the radiant would not keep up so he has 3 gas heaters to boot. Do your home work.

    Love it..

No doubt there was a really great radiant contractor that was twice as high on the job for half the profit too. Classic example of price shopping gone wrong. I'd like to see the gas bill for this baby.

    Here's an idea :)

Maybe he could buy those IR tube heaters and mount them about three feet off the floor. Space them about every four feet. Swap out the 50 gallon for an indirect. Use the heat gained from the floor into the PEX to heat his DHW. He should also make sure the IR tubes are perpendicular to the PEX runs to spread the heat w/o striping.

Just trying to "think outside the box" :)

    Diy

This was A DIY job by the owner. I didnt realize he had radiant until a farmer was asking if he put it in. (Gas heaters threw me). He proceeds to tell the farmer how radiant heat loses 5* every 5' off the floor, thats why he installed the gas heaters. So I asks what the heat source is and if I could see the mechanical setup.

It looked like a pigeon roosted on the copper piping. I starts to explain how the water heater will never keep up ya need a boiler, and how his little grundfoss 15-58 will never pump enough water because of the headloss in his 400' 1/2" (loops six zones 2500' of tubing). Also how he needs regular not plastic zone valves when he gets setup with a boiler. No slab insulation. There will be another Nay sayer on radiant because they did it wrong.

This thread reminds me of the pole barn that I checked out few years back. The guy claimed he know it all about radiantfloor heat and wanted the best and the CHEAPEST prices.. I saw him at the local watering hole and I asked him about the best heat he installed? He b**** and moaned about how expenive to run and always running out of propane... When he told me that he ran his back up kerosene heater, the heat stayed in the building better than RFH.. Then I asked him about any insulations under the slab and outside foundation walls, he siad everyone told him its not needed as once the earth get warm, the temps will stay warm thru out the winter... Asked him who's they? Forced air contractors, handymen, and the guys in construction trades... Then he proceed to tell me that non insualtations is not the problems, etc, etc... I stopped by ony when in the area and just to keep face seeing the job... As forementioned, no insulation and well known brand boiler piped wrong, piped in and out to tubings without and bypass, 3 ways, etc, burners covered with rusts etc, proundly labeled by a forced air installer... I explaned the owner what repipings needed to be done and other work as well... He'll get back to me... Sure enough he got back to me after he talked to installer and said I was full of s***! Oh well, I got paid cash for checking it out..
