Efficiency Question Regarding Burnham Commercial Boiler

Oil input is 16.6 GPH or 2,324 MBH if 140,000 BTU's per Gallon. This would put you at 83.52%

Gas input is 2,396 MBH and this would put you at an even 81% combustion efficiency.

With net I=B=R values (1,507 steam MBH output) this would take you down to 77.64%.

    Burnham Commercial Boiler Thermal Efficiency

What is the thermal efficiency for a Burnham Commercial Steam Boiler #V1110, with a gross output of 1941 mbh? Thanks!

  • Thermal Efficiencies

The tested and published Thermal Efficiencies of the V1110 boiler for Oil are 83.5% and 81% for Natural Gas. Combustion Efficiencies are 84.8% for Oil and 82.2 for Gas. These are from the IBR Ratings manuals published by The Hydronics Institute Division of GAMA. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for clarifying-

I always thought that the published ratings in the literature were combustion efficiencies and that thermal efficiencies were a tad less (accounting for jacket losses and other parasitic losses). I appreciate you being more detailed than I, as usual.

    Burnham Boiler Thermal Efficiency

Are the combustion and thermal efficiency ratings based on high or low fire?
