Tiny little thing is'nt ! You do bring up a good point. Its funny that manufactures don't think of some of these things.

HR, you are the becoming the COnsumer Reports/ U.L. of the Hydronics field.

    looking and thinking

The 110 I have shiped with a Grundfos 3 speed Super Brute under the hood. I'd like to see isolation valves as a change out would soak the nice foam insulation that lines the boiler compartment :) If the system happens to have glycol a sticky mess, for sure, and a potential fire hazard.

Looks like someone spent a lot of assembly time to braze a threaded adapter on the internal copper piping, then thread a flange onto the adapters to mount the circ pump. Seems a sweat iso flange would serve several purposes. Less complicated assembly, fewer leak potentials, and contractor friendly isolation.

Actually why not leave the circ pump to the contractor to install. With two minor piping changes this boiler could go from good to great in regards to piping flexability.

Pipe it as the Weil Ultra with top or bottom S&R options. makes heating and indirect hook ups a snap.

Piping installation instructions are a little foggy. Bold print indicates P/S piping is recommended. But drawings show combo system/ boiler circ piping. A bit confusing.

If in fact P/S piping is not required, if pressure drop of the system allows, yet another reason to leave the circ for the contractor to install?

The Made in Slovakia, Honeywell control is mounted up front on a swing out panel with very nice terminal block connections.

Looking forward to piping and running this boiler. I suspect that foam lined case should make for the quietest mod con out there.

    The same thought occured

to me. But I think they are open for suggestions while trying to keep costs competitive with the other economy mod cons. I saw a big difference between my first Prestige and the last one I put in last week. When I visited the factory we had a skulling session about design. One interesting possibility that came up was to exchange the male pipe thread connection coming out the bottom with simple flanges so you could bolt on the pipes. It's a little hard to get under with a propress once it's hung. I always make my bottom connections before I hang it. Another "look out" is be sure to leave extra wire on the terminal connections so you can still swing the control board out of the way to get to the circulator. BTW the larger 175 and 250 units come with no circulator installed, only the 110. WW

    T.T,

ew did a couple and thought the same thing about the pump . Another point was thier low water cut off thingy is on a dead end piece of pipe with no way to vent the air . I like it over the aluminum guys , but it ain't no Vitodens! Good value for cost IMHO.

    have not tried one yet

but I will. At the class for the Prestige, the engineer making the case said that P/S is optional; however the heat exchanger has a self-scouring function wich is dependent on flow; so I would assume P/S with good primary flow would be beneficial. But what the heck do I know?

    The Prestige

The heat exchanger is of a fire tube design allowing the condensate to wash combustion residue away maintaining a constant efficiency. That is not dependant on flow through the heat exchanger. The H.E. has a low pressure drop due to the flow not being constricted through small water passages. Having been through the factory course and seeing all that this boiler is capable of, it is one of the best buys on the market. Your customers payback period on their purchase will be reduced in years compared to many other brands! Combine that with a TT tank in tank design indirect and you will a seriously happy customer!!!

    I judt installed one

with no primary secondary. I was attaching to an old gravity system with great big pipes, so no or little resistance to flow. It was all one big zone so no zone valves shutting off or multiple circulators to vary flow. Very uncomplicated. You just gotta use your head about when you need to use P/S or not. Also with no P/S I am sure to get the lowest water temp back for getting the extra efficiency out of the boiler. I set the outdoor reset ramp at 164 F at 10 degrees outside air, and 120 at 68. Wish they had the indoor shift control availible so we could optimize the curve with indoor feedback. (It's in the works. Don't know when) WW

    yup

One of the things I don't like is how simple the control is, in the words of the rep, "We where trying not to scare off the plumbers". True enough but your frustrating the rest of us by leaving too much off the table . I want to change the center of the curve let me do it or i'll sell Vitodens instead.
