where to start
When I first heard of this site it took a few days to look it up and to say the least i was impressed. Followed the the wall a little a first and now its kinda becomming an obsession. While there are a lot of things going on in here that pertain to me I still like to read most questions that talk boilers. Working as an union pipefitter for 20 years I can say boilers are the most interesting thing going for me. The company that employs me for the last 8 years employs boilermakers and pipefitters and a few other trades. From installing, maintaing, building and repairing boilers is where my intrest in boilers came to be. Working as a fitter I've worked in numerous places involving all kinds, types and styles of boilers in the chicago land area.Sorry to ramble on here but when i built my own home actually bought a modular and put it on a basement the heating system in my mind was going to be a boiler. So after doing countless hours of research many hours on the internet my system was coming together. I wanted to do all the work alone which I did took me 5 months of work 450 miles from where I live as this is my retirement home project. No where could I find in the chicago land area someone to design a system that involved copper radiation in my basement floor or a snowmelt on my walkout basement pad. Finally found a mechanical engineer in California willing to design my system. After installing the system he laid out for me I have to say it works awesome, yes it was expensive, as I wanted,in my humble opinion the best system for me.OK OK sorry for rambling on here, all above on my system is BEFORE the wall was known to me. So yes there is questions I have and when asked sometimes if, not most times they go ignored or are off key, meaning the answers are not what I'm looking for. I would love nothing more to talk to some people here on the wall one on one as there is some awesome talented people on this site. No I won't steal work from the professionals here as I respect any one who works hard for a living or engineers who give advice. But yes I installed my own system have some questions and need answers, as most worthy people in here forgot more that I know. Whew, like I said sorry for rambling on here but do want to talk to someone who is knowledged and willing to answer questions that I have. I would be more than willing to compesate any one who can give me answers as I have a huge hole of information that needs to be addressed. I have tried the wall but need one on one, any takers?0 -
so....
So, what's the questions? There are many good heating engineer/desiginer in chicagoland and don't know why u had go to california for it...0 -
I'd say Fire Away...
If you have a lot of questions, I would send them off one at a time. (Too many questions at once becomes a potential project but one or two are managable and will have more takers.)
Another good thing about doing it that way is, everyone has opinions on many things and stronger or more informed and detailed opinions on their particular area and experience. You may have a question on burners, heat exchangers, piping, controls...components... many things. Breaking it down will help you get the best answers to your particular questions.
And how cool is that...0 -

Joe
There are some truly remarkable minds at work on The Wall. What I've done for one-on-one is to keep track of who appears to be knowledgeable in the areas in which I have interest, go to "New Messages" for those subjects, get their Email address and then send them a letter.

Well like I said all hapened before the wall, wish i knew before I started. Had many questions answered here and I'm sure there will be many more. But thanks for the responses had to get it off my chest. As far as getting answers in the chicago land area I tried to find someone to engineer a completly copper system and had no takers. Two repetable supply hoses were more than interested to help until copper was mentioned for the radiant heat in the concrete. Searched the web and found a place in California the engineer was more than helpful, answers any questions I have, but always looking for other ideas. My system works good but i'm sure there can be improvements made to the set up I have. And the people at heat transfer have been awesome. On another note I'm going to have the oppurnity to run the job at a water treatment facility and we are going to be installing a new boiler plant with four 75,000 lbs. boilers from the ground up. A totally new construction job good for 18+ months I can hardly wait. This will be my second big job to run,as the first one had two 48,000 lbs. boilers. The boilers are babcok wilcox. Again thanks to all the great people who have supplied me with answers here its a pleasure.0 -
