  • I'm doing

I'm doing the job right now using the above mentioned tubings... I asked for the fittings and adts so I can pressure tested the tubing and be ready for the pour.... The answer? Oh u needs fittings, we don't have them as we don't have any calls for them.... I look sqaurely at the guy's eyes and told him to take me to his leader...
Now, supposley those fittings are on the counter waiting to be picked up.. How the hell the supply house got rid of all the weil mclain tubing stuffs/fittings and get the new tubings comapany and NO fittings for same?

    RJ, The \"tubings\" ?

    That's no help at all.

This is a problem with your supplier not Kitec.
You can substitute Misc fittings & adaptors for testing purposes. PEX is PEX and PAP is;;; well you know. Use any crimp fittings but iffin' you plan on covering it in the slab,,, that's another story. You really think Weil makes tubing?

    WM gets tubing from where?

if you need to talk to "The Leader" give me a call. I'll see what I can do.

Last time I used Kitec was about 3 years ago so they may have changed since but their PAP is not standard pex size. I had a B*!#h of a time when I connected it to a regular pex manifold. Seems like their tube required 17mm fittings and I had to double ring all the manifold connections and change all the fittings on the bottom of the Buderus panel rads I used on that job.

You might also contact Hydronic Alternatives about their PEOC pipe which is multi layer, quite flexible, low expansion and uses standard fittings. Looks like nice stuff to me and may be the next big thing.

  • I haven't tested this yet, but I've been told the Mr. Pex PAP fittings should fit kitec pipe. I guess tolerances in PAP standards is wider than in PEX, but they are manufactured using the same process, so I would think the fittings should work.

I need to get some kitec in here and test this out once and for all I think. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

    We use Kitec PAP exclusively

We installed nearly 10 miles of Kitec PAP. We love the stuff. Especially in staple-up. I always laugh when I here the PEX crowd say "how can you possibly thread that rigid pipe thru the joists?" It's faster and easier than PEX if know a few tricks.

To answer your question, I was in a jam once and had trouble finding a supplier with a good inventory of Kitec on hand. I called several houses throughout the nation.

Contact American Radiant Technology in Connecticut. They stock a very large selection of Kitec tubing, manifolds, and fittings.

Kitec fittings do fit Mr.Pex and vice/versa. I use both.

I just checked out the Mr. PEX PAP

and it seems to only go down to 1/2". I already talked to the designer and he wants to stick with the 3/8". Sure looks like it with pull easily in the bays. Thanks again for the help!

    Does anyone know

when this stuff will be standardised. Right now I have on my truck just for water and heat. Watts pex, Weil Mclain Alumapex, Stadler Viega pex and pro press. Plus regular copper since no manufacturer has a full line of valves and controls.

No mater what I use I still have to get the torch out for something.

This has to change the material has to be more standard and the manufacturers must let you mix and match just like copper sweat, pvc,ips brass and steel.

  • They do make 3/8" PAP, you might have an old catalog, they just added 3/8" this year.

Just did my first Kitec last week. Wanted PAP and went for the Weil originally since that's what I WAS (keyword) using. Supplier had the pipe and no fittings. GREAT! Why waste the inventory space on the tube I wondered. He did say he would be getting them in "soon" but couldn't tell me exactly when. I can't quite figure out these "distributors" with ZERO inventory. It appears the term "distributor" is used rather loosely in the radiant business. Anywho, I remembered that I met the Ipex boys at Siggy's seminar in Edison a few weeks back and so I followed up on the Supply house they recommended an they had everything I needed! Goodbye Weil Mclain...Hello Kitec! I love it when a plan comes together. That networking thing really works! I think I like the orange and chrome better anyway.
