Installing new 3 pass Boiler

"I am a homeowner whose old oil fired cast iron boiler needs to be replaced. A friend of mine in the industry suggested I replace it with a 3-pass boiler. I am thinking of getting a Biasi boiler. Does anyone have any experience with it, either positive or negative.

Thanks
Chuck"

There are several to choose from

Biasi is one, Burnham's MPO is another. Buderus and Viessman also make 3-pass boilers but theirs are more expensive. All have their proponents on the Wall.

The most important factor is the contractor who installs the boiler. Try the Find a Professional page of this site to locate one near you.

Is this a hot-water or steam system?

    Other issues

A three pass boiler is a good start, however, looking at that alone is like an auto engineer selecting an efficient motor for a new car and then paying no attention to drag, or vehicle weight etc.

The boiler is but one third of the puzzle. Another third is the control setup installed on the boiler and as Steamhead so correctly says, the last third is a good installation.

Your project will be disappointing unless all three form a system that provides comfort and efficiency for you.

    Nice looking job

I hate to see laundry appliances in the same room as HVAC equipment though. Tell the HO that he really needs to have a good service tech check that burner every year. Dryer lint on a blower wheel will really mess with your air setting.
