Nasty weather

Warranty is voided. Just looked at a failed Polaris (heating & HW) tank and because it was subjected to flooding a couple years back, MFG will not honor the 10 year tank warranty.

Gas valve replacement kits are going to be flying off the shelves once this dries out.

    Midwest and Northeast looking dismal

Seems like this giant grey cloud has no intention of moving any time soon. Rain, cool weather, and lack of sunshine has been the daily forecast for Michigan and surrounding states. Now that I am in the Northeast, the same thing is happening here -- and worse. Flooding and fog with no relief in sight.

Does this weather have any impact on business, i.e. postponing outdoor work or putting people "out of the mood" for service or replacement work? We know that temperature extremes affect our business but what about inclimate weather? Just curious.
  • of course

Of course it does, means no golfing and more sump pumps replacment....

    Sometimes...

So you brought this with you, huh ??? :)

I umpire LL and HS softball evenings, also. I've done some pretty wet games, rotating as many as 6 balls to keep a "dry" one on the field. Those games aren't as much fun as 70F and sunny :)

    Killing biz

This cool May is killing our cooling work. We have 5 techs sitting home. Too cold to clean A/C units and we don't believe in doing them in this weather. 2 A/C installs cancelled for this week too. Should be crazy. We are going to be way down for May. We are looking at some 80s possible next week according to the long range forecast. And John, I'll be in your stomping grounds for the Mem Day weekend. I want 80, no humidity & lots of sun, can you arrange that?

    Sump pumps,

And service for the forseeable future. Boilers and waterheaters underwater...and with the new style water heaters, will they be able to be saved? Chris

New business is off a little.

We tried not setting any condensers last week becaue of the rain, but now were forced to do them in the rain this week. We have lots of jobs on the books and cant fall too far behind.

As, far as service. What service? too cold for PMA work.Thats why Im sitting in my office reading this!

    Im sick of NE ( 41yrs ).

John, love reading your articles in the NEWS, keep up the good work.

    Replacement of the gas valve.....

Is easy on most of these, replacement of the gaskets and one time high limits are the main concern. If the burners have to be drained...how easy is that going to be?

I know that American brand can be done, but don't have much experience with the rest. This just may make the public scream for a return to the older stlye water heaters.(safety be damned) Chris

    weather

Can you imagine what it would be like if this storm hit in January.....??????? So much for the fire danger, eh? Coast of Maine doing fairly well with little or no flooding in Portland area. No impact on business yet...have more estimates to do than ever at this time of year. Work lining up like birds on a wire......

    There's hope!!

We finally saw the sun for more than 30 seconds here in Michigan today. It's headed your way soon.
  • impact on business

I rode around in a canoe 3 days ago plugging oil tanks and shutting off gas meters in my neighborhood, in the merrimack river area. 5 feet of water in my cellar, 4 feet in the street and the power just got turned on tonight. Bob
