Heat loss calculations HELP !

With HVAC-Calc I get about 10,700.

10°F winter design for Suffolk County.

Used R-11 for ceiling as a roof/ceiling combination. From the measurements I gather that there's a peak in the roof with base 10' wall height.

Included nothing for the inside walls; used 30°F temperature differential for the garage wall.

Used 3-60" x 80" French doors and 2-60" x 80" windows on the large wall. (166.5 sq.ft. total)

Did consider the garage side of the slab as a perimeter loss, but not the two inside walls.

"Average" infiltration.

Long Island have sun there? Thought it was island of ice, where did the the "long island ice tea" comes from.... Kidding asides, the other wallies will help you out on this heat loss, my main concern is the concrete slab, hope you are some insulataion on top of it to increase the comfort level as well decrease the heat loss...

    And the slab EDGES too!

Edges are a tad more critical. Absent insulation you can run 75 BTU's per linear foot for uninsulated slab edges. Daffodils in February as Dan noted...

I may take a crack at this when I free up. No promises though.

    What is

the method of heating this space? Is it embedded PEX tubing, baseboard radiation, fan coil? Convective air based heat loss vs. radiant heat loss analysis might yield different numbers. Just curious.

    Heat loss calculations HELP

    Robert
I was planning on using Myson radiators, but I am open to other solutions.
Also how did you come up with 11,620 Btu’s?

    Thanks Nick

    One additional comment.

Sure sounds like only 3 1/2" of "high density" fiberglass in the ceiling yet ceiling height [seems] VERY generous.

Were this me I would HIGHLY recommend MUCH BETTER INSULATION IN THE CEILING!!! Even 1" of rigid insulation applied to the under side of the rafters will help immensely and any decent drywaller won't have too much of a fit...

I sure hope that there aren't any recessed lights in that ceiling! If so, say goodbye to most insulation value and say hello to the opportunity for ventilation problems in a climate where heating load dominates!
