Btu eater

This is one big Btu eater. Clocked the meter at 750,000 Btu per hour. The boiler size required for this house with detached carriage house is 250,000. This coal fired boiler was converted to oil at one time before it was converted to gas.
The photos show the conversion burner. They must have thought the bigger the better. When the boiler fired, the flames rolled out the front.
The boiler was placed in a pit about 5' below the basement floor so the water could gravity flow through the underground pipes to the carriage house.
Boiler Busters took out the boiler today. About 4000 lbs. of cast iron. Installation starts tomorrow with 2 Trinity's and a side arm. Will show the after photos this week end.
