What is a sweeping tee?

Options
What is a sweeping tee? My contractor claims it is a boiler part not a plumbing part. He says its brass and it goes to copper.

perhaps better known as monoflow tee

They are brass and used in hydronic systems to create a pressure drop to force flow through a heat emmiter.

    Yes Yes

It fits on the bottom of the broom. Very popular in the west.

I love some of the names my guys have brought up.

    Long turn tee wye

In my area I have heard some o f the younger guys refer to a long turn tee wye as a " sweeping tee" or a "long sweep tee" But then for many years I would call unistrut "kindorf" and most people still refer to tissues as "kleenex"

maybe he is hoping it will sweep up his mess for him. Brass goes to to copper -- and what does that have to do with heating? He's out of his gord.

    brass to copper

Sounds like he has a brass or bronze fitting with socket ends for a copper tube system [sweat ] as opposed to iron pipe size female for a steel pipe threaded system. fairly common.

    I've not heard that term..........ever.

What was the topic of your discussion with your contractor when this term came up? What did he say this fitting did in particular and why does he need it?

I'm just looking for clues as to what the intended use of the fitting actually is. Maybe that will help us determine what he's talking about.

I'm curious because in 30 years of hardware store, plumbing and heating experience I have never heard of this term.

    Jiffy

Jiffy fittings are made by the Fernco Company. You can cut out a damaged drainage fitting and replace it with a one piece all rubber fitting with clamps at each joint.

    the not plumbers techniques

ah, the sission joint . when you could eliminmate the necessary three sections of pipe to cut in a fitting on a cast iron soil line. at best is was a slopass joint and also illegal. the kaffir joint with the screw hub was the more acceptable way to go if you wanted to slide in a quick job and beat the system. this is why there are codes and licensed plumbers. to try and curtail the fly by nite butchers. saddles were also big timesaver

    When working in NYC

we called, what I know now as a long turn tee wye,a Boston tee wye and of course this is use in a plumbing waste or drainage system. Maybe now it is called a sweeping tee but never heard of it.
    I still call it "Kindorf"
