AC Help

Need a quick lesson in wiring for an AC unit I wanted to have the 24V hooked up when the tech came. The wires for the stat and the 24 V up to the roof unit have been messed with. I have 2- 24v transformers one is hooked up to the starter to run the relay the other I think went to a set of moter driven louvers. ALL I WANT TO DO is have the compressor tested ( there was no 24 V at the roof unit when the last guy came.) Should the second transformer be connected through the starter switch/ relay up to the roof unit? Where should the stat make the connection break (I assume it should break the 24V to the starter/ relay) I just want to have the basics ready for the tech. when he gets here. There were a bunch of timers, louvers, out side stats all that have been jumbled by previous owners. (What a mess)

    Defintely a Mess

Since there is an economizer on the system (those motor controlled-louvers you are referring to) as well as two transformers, you will probably be better off waiting for the tech to arrive and let him deal with the control wiring. Since there have been mulitple people working on the system, it would be impossible to give you advice on what you should do with the wiring.

If you want the technician to simple test the compressor operation, he will be able to do that without having the 24-volt control wiring circuits operational.

    good advice

Indeed Eugene is correct on both items. The 24 closes the contactor so testing the high voltage is pretty straight forward. If you need cooling NOW you can have the tech open the economizers to minimum, since it's hot, and drop a roll of tstat wire off the roof and temporarily just feed the contactor from the temp wire outside the bld to the stat so the place will cool. Trace the original wiring at a more reasonable time.

    AC

Thank you both. as it turns out my first info was incorect. The 24V transformer is located in the top unit on this model. There is a set of wires going to the air handler's contactor that turns on the top compressor. More on the optimizer. What is the setting for the outside stat( what temp should the louvers open to the outside.)Seccond question. My stat is breaking the 24v line to the air handlers contactor. it is working. where should it go?
