It's called a de-superheater. A quick google search should give you a few manufacturers.

You should probably have it installed by whoever did your a/c to avoid any warranty issues. Also, keep in mind you have to disconnect the water in the wintertime.

A friend of mine has a device that captures the heat from his air conditioning compressor to make hot water. Does anyone know where to get one?

We recently moved and one of the things I reall miss is my desuperheater. We used it for 10 plus years, never turning on the gas to the water heater whenever the AC was on.
