Low Loss Header

... given their flexibility in manufacturing things to order, I'm sure that Radiant Engineering should be capable of building that LLH for you. Alternatively, I imagine that Viessmann and the like also sell their version of the thing.

    Low Loss Header

I have an application in which I will bu utilizing multiple modulating boilers and would like to incorporate a low loss header with them. My only dillema is where to get one. Can someone please point me to a manufacturer?

    Thanks for the help!

in Bozeman MT (406) 587-3442. Ask for Brian, Andrew or Dale.

All stainless steel construction with 1 1/4" NPT ports. It comes standard with two 1/2" taps on the top for sensor well and auto air vent from Caleffi (both included.) The bottom has a 3/4" taping and boiler drain. They will also ship to you next day their "better header!" They will custom make one for you should you need one with specific requirments.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response, 1-1/4" will not work for my application, for I have a 1000MBH load. I was looking for something larger. Do you know if such an animal is available?

    No Problem

We can manufacture any size LLH you need. What size fittings are you looking for? We could manufacture one with 3" fittings and a 4" trunk out of 304 SS. Give us a call.

    Couple questions

Does your LLH have to be ASME rated? Might be something to check out..........

Do you know what flow you want on the boiler side and the system side?

I would guess you're looking at a variable type flow on the boiler side and around 80-100gpm on the system so you'd probably want 2 1/2" or 3" tappings for that. Lot's of "it depends" like male threads, female threads, flanges etc.

I had Earth Lee Ltd. from Rocky Point NY make one up a couple weeks ago. I'd suggest getting in touch with them as they can fabricate any configuration you can dream up. Their phone # is 631-821-1213 and fax is 631-821-0903. Great people to work with.

I'll see if I can boot up a picture of one that she made. It's 2" pipe with 1" tapping on the boiler side and 1 1/4" on the system side. 1/2" out the bottom for a drain and a 3/4" tapping for the Hoffman #79 air vent on top. Not a real good shot but the manifold/LLH is boxed in to protect it in this particular app.

You should be able to click on the picture and expand it.
  • Steve is correct.

Earth Lee Ltd. can also fabricate to your needs. However, the quality and craftsmanship of the stainless units I'm getting from Radiant Engineering doesn't compare with the mild steel manifolds I've seen EarthLee make.

To each their own and price points may apply. I'm just trying to help someone find what he needs.

    Stainless $$$

A stainless steel LLH is supercool, but in a typical closed hyrdonic system that moves water, or a glycol mix that is maintained, of what use is a muchodinero stainless steel model?

As usual here on the Wall... "it depends" runs rampant again

    Stainless

When weighing the options, the time becomes a lot more important than slightly more expensive materials. They don't necessarily need to be stainless, but wouldn't you rather they were?

I'm sure Viessmann's headers will last as long as the boilers, but there were some improvements to be made. Mostly it was in the basic design (NPT fittings and air vent), but we took it one step further and used stainless steel as long as we were going to the trouble of fabricating the pieces.

I still don't understand why Viessmann doesn't give us NPT fittings. We're not going metric any time soon, and those adapters are a pain, an extra joint, add to the width, and provide extra potential for leaks.
