Cut an old basketball in half, and drill a hole thru the center for your drill arbor. Install your drill thru the hole and seal the half basketeball against the ceiling when you cut out the diffuser holes. Dust and mess is neatly contained in the basketball for disposal!

    High Velocity Units

Please offer any insight on the Unico System Vs Space-Pak.Any specific tips or limitations any of you have run into?

Unico offers exceptional engineering data and great "common sense" advice at their website. Last time I checked, Spackpak was a bit lacking in that regard.

Both have good track records and [seem] to give very good comfort and very good service life when properly installed.

"Ductmanship" is the key to success--not only in the layout, but in ensuring that it's VERY well sealed.

Unico insists that you first design for cooling and then determine the possible amount of heat you can get from the system. Unico says that you will typically need supplemental heat North of the Mason-Dixon line. Spacepak isn't as detailed or stringent.

Both have their roots in the original high-velocity system from Canada that's been called "built like a tank". BUT that Canadian system was concerned with heat--not A/C.

    Follow their instructions carefully...

I intalled a Space-Pak cooling only in my bungalow about ten years ago. The home is about 1200 sq ft with a 1/2 finished attic. I read, re-read, and studied their instructions very carefully, and although some of the instructions went against my better judgement (for traditional A/C) I decided they knew more about the system than I did.

The trunk ran easily, the hardest part (for my install, anyway) was finding enough Lennox hole saw bits to cut all the diffusers(?) in with. Plaster ceilings really dull the bits fast!
System ran great and I will never be without central A/C again!
I was really impressed with the operation of the system and, although it was quite a bit more expensive than the traditional system, it fit my application quite handily!

PS. It bumped the resale value of the house by quite a few coins!
