You may want to try New York Energy Conservation, based in New Rochelle (lower Westchester). Their 800 number is 1-800-461-4669. In case you can't use the 800 number from upper Westchester, you may want to call Verizon for their (914) number.

I don't know if they can do the testing you mention, but we have an older home and they blew in cellulose insulation in our exterior walls and it has helped immensely. They may be able to help. Ask for either Hugo Sr or Hugo Jr.

They are good and I highly recommend them.

    home insulation testing

Anyone recommend a good company near the northern westchester ny area to do a home insulation test? (blower test, analysis, etc. Seems like very few companies have the infra-red camera since it's so expensive; they borrow it from a stage agency.)

Through NYSERDA.org i've located a few contractors. Best and closest for me so far seems to be AccuAire heating and Cooling headed by Keith Monthie in Poughkeepsie. Since in this field the people who do the testing AND the work are often the same, there will always be a potential conflict of interest, but what else is new. If anyone's familiar with this firm please let me know.

NYSERDA runs the NY Energy Star program; they have a video with the guy from This Old House having his old home retro-insulated with cellulose in the walls and polyiceline sprayed in the attic under the bare sheathing. (The attic insulation is different than the advice I've seen on the Wall.) Also getting a new boiler to replace the one that's 15 years old, supposedly with one that's 87% efficient.

If anybody from the WALL views this it would be interesting to see if you are in agreement. www.training.nyserda.org. on login click 'home performance' then the next window you'll be shown click "testing your home' on the video column on the left.
