Paul Rohrs software

We are using Microstation V8 to create scaled mechanical drawings. With drawings like this, the finished product is much easier to predict. There is a lot of information not included in mechanical schematics that is included in a scaled drawing.

I'm not sure...
whether Paul uses software or if he's just magic. (I'm glad I know him though.) Kevin

Visio software from Microsoft. It is a very nice tool. Just like the crescent wrench in your tool bag.
There are multiple manufacturers who can be persuaded to part with "Stencils" of their fine products that are a very nice addition.
Also, you can "capture" any picture,ie-boiler, family member, American Flag, and convert it to your drawing.
You should also check out NRT's website @ http://www.nrtradiant.com/
Rob does some really nice work as well.
I also like John Siegenthalers work at Appropriate Designs. His website:Hydronicpros.com.
Mike Miller from Tekmar is a pioneer for Visio drawings in that I think he is the author of a majority of application drawings available at Tekmar's website.
Here is a link to Microsoft's site pertaining to Visio.

Most office supply companys should have this in stock. (Office Depot)

Thanks for the kind words! We use PowerCADD, as does siegenthaler I believe (we're a mac house). The drawings on the site right now are from our old program, really crappy compared to what we're doing these days.. we gotta update those sample drawings!0 -
Stencils...
I wouldn't want people to see the first drawings that I pulled off of the printer. It seems like I (we) are always refining our methods. That's why I like to see how others lay out systems.
Whose stencils do you employ Rob? Or did you design your own pumps, air-separators, boilers etc?

Everything is either custom drawn here in house, or subcontracted to a friend of ours who is a graphics guy if we don't have time. Since we just hired a CAD guy recently though, we're definitely doing the vast majority of it in house now. Draw it once... use it forever!0 -
If you can wait
a bit longer the HydroniCAD will be available. I believe Siggy still plans a demo at RadFest next Wednesday. I recieved the Users Manual today

THAT's What I've been waiting for.
Does it have stencils with manufacturers products?
I ended up buying the wrong version of Visio. You need the Professional version, not the standard version.
I used to work with AutoCad, and still do for other things besides hydronics.

HydroniCAD
Software development is like building a house - it's takes more time than you think to drive that last finish nail in place.
Next Wednesday, (10/12) we will be debuting the HydroniCAD software package at the RPA Radfest "pitstop" area from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. All are welcome.
HydroniCAD is best described as "a hydronics lego set." You pick the pieces and just snap them together to make a drawing. In the last few months we've been adding more features to the program than what our original specification called for (hence the release has been delayed a bit).
Although it's windows® - based software, HydroniCAD has some "mac like" drawing features that really improve productivity.
The target shipping date for HydroniCAD is November 1. The price will be $285. A prerelease discount and other "deals" are in the works. Additoinal information on HydroniCAD will be posted on www.hydronicpros.com in the near future.0 -

It's a completely stand-along package (doesn't require Visio, AutoCad, etc.). How long till a mac port?0 -
I knew someone would ask that.
I love my mac as much as the next guy, but the overlap between mac users and hydronic heating designers is pretty small. We don't have any current plans for a mac version. However, HydroniCAD will run using Microsoft Virtual PC. We may also post the hydronic symbol libraries used in HydroniCAD in PowerCADD format for mac users as a separate product. Stay tuned.0 -
would you be able
to import a hydronicad schematic into an autocad drawing?0 -
Can I have one NOW???
PLEAASSSSEEEE????
Are the symbols generic? Or can a manufacturer supply symbols?
I used to draw all of my own stuff in AutoCad, and it took forever. I need to design heating systems, not fart around with software.
Will it integrate with HDS?0 -
We are currently developing an AutoCAD symbol library of totally generic hydronic piping symbols (the same as those in HydroniCAD). Hope to have them available in mid November. We'll announce when ready under "what new" at www.hydronicpros.com.0 -
Al, Yes, the symbols used in HydroniCAD are totally generic. They are very similar to the symbols I use for schematics in PM columns. HydroniCAD will be ready to ship on November 1, 2005. See "what's new" at www.hydronicpros.com for more information.0 -
