Very heavy question

Any idea on what an old coal converted to oil, 2 door American Standard Arcoliner weighs? Tag on boiler says 450 steam sq feet, 123 water sq feet. UBT J2 Series. It is circa 1950 or so. I think 3 section. Still runs pretty and a breeze to clean, but stack temps are way up there and sucks up oil like no tomorrow.
Any idea on how much it weighs (concerned about stairs) and any tips on removing it? Are there any boiler removal/wrecking guys in Nassau/LI? Any ideas on how to upgrade instead of changing? I've been surfing the wall and was wondering if the great minds out here think an ODR woudl help. Am I just wasting money and should I rip it out? A heat loss hows I need 90k net, this beast is running witha 1.5 gal/hr nozz and short cycling. Thanks to Dan H and all the Wallies.

ALOT!! If you do try and take it out yourself make sure your stairs can handle alot of weight. Last thing you want to do is go through the stairs with the boiler chasing you.You may be better of to get an estimate on a complete replacement with removal included.

Break it down to sections - and it'll still be heavy.
But doable.0 -

I'm from Levittown
and I've taken out a good share of Arco boilers all around Nassau . Depending on the staircase , it can be taken out as one piece with a power handtruck . If there's a concern about the stairs not holding the load , it can be split , but it gets messy . Is the basement totally finished ?
You would definitley NOT be wasting your money by upgrading the boiler to newer cast iron . Properly sized to the heatloss - from 1.5 GPH to a 90K boiler , and taking into account the difference in AFUE ( probably low 70% for the Arco , 85% AFUE on a new one ) , and outdoor reset if you wish - payback time will be real fast with oil prices today . And don't forget with new equipment , much less worrying about the boiler breaking down on a 0 degree night .
If you want , I can get you the number of the removal company we use for big iron . They're very good and very clean .0 -
Do they work in Westchester?
Do they cut out small steel boilers?
We need a cutter. And having a reliable removal guy would be like finding gold.0 -

What is the name/number of the outfit? I really appreciate it.0 -
My removal guy charges me 50 bucks to remove the boiler. If he can get it out in one piece or if he has to break it down its still 50 bucks. I dont know what I would do without him. I try to get him there while I am there so I can help him lift out the sections.0 -
Listen to these professionals. We tried to remove the same type and size boiler this morning, using an electric two wheeler. We were up three of seven stairs and the stairs let go. No injuries, as we had anticipated the failure of the steps. It's back down in the basement and we will now have to split the boiler into sections and remove it with planks.
