getting gouged

You must be from my area. I grew up near Wheaton Plaza, not far from the picture. I currently live just South of Damascus a few miles North of Montgomery air park. The station closest to me is 2.99 per gallon. I'm considering raising my rates to compensate. Wayco Wayne

    cost of gas-photo

Location: Corner of Georgia Ave, and Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD (one mile north of Washington, DC)

Time and Date: 11:22 AM, 8-31-05

General Feeling: Angry at the prospect of the attempt to "gouge".

    Mike

(It is 3.19 a gallon for regular, in case the photo does not load) How do I control the size, etc of these photos?

This is just an Omen of things to come...

You''l need to open the jpeg in Photoshop, go to "Image Size", reduce the pixels to 72 per inch for the Internet. The Internet is low-res, so browsers display really large pictures unless you reduce the pixels per sqare inch.
How about a Tax on Urban SUV owners to cut taxes on home heating oil? They might drive less, (doubtful though).

    not a gouge at all

This is the free market system (ie. capitalism) at its brutally finest. The right price for a product is whatever the market will bear.

    That's a bargain

Gimme a break -- $3.19 is not gouging.

  • If you think gas prices are gouging, you must be actively not reading the news, and you're in for a rude shock, cause it's all uphill from here my friend. And the hill's getting steeper as we go.

They did'nt pay a higher price for the whats in the tanks, They just watched TV and jacked it up. Shame on them.

Ya I know, this is where its going but to be jacking the price before the higher wholesale price ??

    Breath of fresh air

In Lafayette, Iowa, Jennings, & Lake Charles, where we have 1,000s of broke & desolate Katrina refugee's living in tents and wherever they can.

Gas station owners are LOWERING their prices. I'm so damn proud of them.

Gas was on sale for between $2.37 to $2.47.

No gouging going on here, thank God.

    I'll keep you all posted.

    Brian.

as we were in the way of all the revitilization. If you buy motors and pumps at Southern Utilities in Silver Spring you will soon do so at their new facility, yet to be announced. They too are "in the way."

Concerning your increased gas costs, unless you you can trim overhead, labor or materials you must find a way to cover the increased fuel costs. Plan on everything increasing for the next six months.

    Wayne,

Do you lower prices if the cost of gas drops?

was just at the pump paying $3.01/ gal. a guy pulled up next to her. was going though his wallet for his credit card. by the time he pulled it out the price went up to $3.31/gal. went inside to complain and was told " my boss called and said to raise the price to $3.31".

    Costco

Some guy said Costco is charging $2.99 here in metro Detroit. Yeah, but it costs $30 to join Costco. I guess its okay if you go inside and buy a lot of surplus goods. I'll stick with Sunoco and Sam's Club.
  • I filled up yesterday morning

at a station in front of my hotel in Albany, NY and the price was 2.75 per gallon. Went by the same station at 1:00 pm on my way to conduct a seminar and the price was 2.89. By the time I returned after the seminar at 9:30 pm the same station was 3.12 per gallon. Drove by a Hess station in Binghamton, NY this afternoon and price as 3.19 per gallon. less than a 1/4 mile down the road was another Hess station with gas at 2.99 per gallon. In this case it couldn't have been hess establishing the prices, it was the individual franchise owners. This, in my opinion, is pure, unadulterated price gouging!

Don't be surprised when you see the price of everything go up to cover this mess! Just about everything I know is shipped by truck, air or rail and I guarantee they will raise their rates to cover the increased cost of fuel. The only thing that isn't going up is our paychecks! A sad state of affairs for sure!

    or just less

disposable(how's that for a conceit) income. Aren't we to be thankful for food clothing and shelter?

  • I guarantee those needs can be met for less than most of us here make in a year. My parents raised me with far less. You just have to be frugal. Which seems to be a word that most of america is allergic to these days. I have little patience for it.

    Prices

Did you know that the profit margin on gas is extremely small.

Some places make any where from a couple pennies to fifteen or twenty cents per gallon.

    gas prices

talked to a friend yesterday who runs a small gas/service station in central massachusetts. the reason the prices jump
even though they still have thousands of gallons in their tanks is the fact they have to pay cash when the trailer drops the next load. he watches the stock market to try determine how much he will need to come up with at that time. it ain't the local guy making the big bucks, remember that Exxon/Mobil is having massive increases in profits lately. guess it's good to be friends with the White House!
